I haven’t written
for a while. I wanted to but simply couldn’t, or wouldn't; I don't know. This morning when I was reading
through my Bible study book I was suddenly very convicted. One of the things I
read about was the sin of wasting time. When I read it, it felt like a slap on
the face. I really had been wasting my time lately on useless things. I had
also become very good at excusing my time wasting. But there was no excuse. And
the truth is that time wasting is a sin and:
Sin steals joy
(Psalm 51:12)
Sin removes
confidence (1 John 3:19-21)
Sin brings
guilt (Psalm 51:3)
Sin gives Satan
the upper hand (2 Cor 2:9-11)
Sin quenches
God’s Spirit (1 Thes 5:19)
Sin brings
physical damage (Ps 38:1-11. 31:10)
Sin causes an
ache in the soul (Ps 32:3-4)
Sin breaks
God’s heart (Eph 4:30)
Sin opens the
door to other sins (Isaiah 30:1)
Sin breaks
fellowship with God (Isaiah 59:1-2)
Sin produces
fear (Proverbs 28:1)
Sin makes me
its slave (John 8:34, Romans 6:16)

Things needed
to change. Now.
So after lunch instead of turning to other
sources of entertainment I turned on my audio Bible and felt compelled to start
with the book of Revelations. God knew
exactly what I needed to hear.
Revelations
3:19
As many as I
love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Revelations 2:4-5
Nevertheless
I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember
therefore from whence thou are fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or
else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his
place, except thou repent.
Revelations 1:3
Blessed is he
that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those
things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
Revelations 1:7
Behold, He
cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced
him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
Getting up, I
quickly went to my computer and found the verses God had directed me to weeks
ago, but I never finished working on. The verses about how Jesus compares
Himself to the brazen serpent in the wilderness.
John 3:14-15
And as Moses
lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted
up: That
whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. (Jesus)
Numbers 21:4-9
And they
journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of
Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.
And the
people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up
out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there
any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.
And the Lord
sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people
of Israel died.
Therefore the
people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the
Lord, and against thee; pray unto the Lord, that he take away the serpents from
us. And Moses prayed for the people.
And the Lord
said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it
shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it,
shall live.
And Moses
made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a
serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
“The people were saved not by doing anything, but by simply looking
to the bronze serpent. They had to trust that something as seemingly foolish as
looking at a serpent on a pole was enough to save them. Surely, some perished
because they thought it too foolish to do that.” David Guzik
As it says in Isaiah 54:22 Look unto me, and be ye saved,
all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
“We might be willing to do a hundred things to earn our salvation,
but God commands us to only trust in Him - to look to Him.” David Guzik
So I beg you,
don’t waste your time. Time is precious and you don’t know how much time you
have left. Look to Jesus and be saved. Come to Him, He will never turn you
away. If you aren’t sure, be like the Bereans. Search the scriptures for
yourself and see if these things are so.
Acts 17:10-11
And the
brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming
thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
These were
more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all
readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were
so.
For, How shall we
escape, if we neglect so great salvation; (Hebrews 2:3a)

Awe Wil! Thanks for those words! How we each need to heed our time... the time is short and as the saying in Dutch goes: 'het tijd gaat snel; gebruik hem well.'
Have you also seen the book by John Piper: 'Don't waste Your Time?'
But thankfully we have a gracious God who understands us well... even when we don't use the time He gives us well.
